Google Brings Silicon Valley Accelerator
to New York
San Francisco, Calif.- NewME Accelerator is seeking local startup rock stars to participate in the New York PopUp Accelerator this fall. In partnership with Google for Entrepreneurs, NewME PopUps bring together entrepreneurs working on innovative technology products for an in-depth, high-intensity weekend of collaboration and production.
The 3-night event on October 26-28 features 1-on-1 coaching from NewME experts and a 2-part workshop titled “The Art of the Pitch” which provides secrets to a perfect pitch to investors and how to stand out among other entrepreneurs. The weekend culminates with “Demo Day,” a night where startups will network with key players in New York’s tech scene, special guests from Silicon Valley, and ultimately pitch their idea to a panel of judges that consists of local and Silicon Valley investors.
NewME PopUps have taken place in cities around the country including Miami, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Detroit, Memphis, and Atlanta, GA. This will be NewME’s first PopUp in New York.
Angela Benton, founder and CEO of NewME Accelerator, is looking forward to the Popup coming to New York.
"The New York tech community is a leading destination for technology entrepreneurs and is proving that startups can do extremely well outside of Silicon Valley. We are excited to bring our PopUp Accelerator to New York and work with the exceptional entrepreneurial talent that is there and well as contribute to the already great ecosystem there."
NewME has teamed up with Google for Entrepreneurs on its nationwide PopUp tour.
“We’re excited about NewME’s mission and the important work they are doing to accelerate entrepreneurs across the country. Our mission with Google for Entrepreneurs is to grow entrepreneurial communities and equip them with the resources and technology they need to tackle big ideas and build amazing companies,” said Mary Grove, Director of Global Entrepreneurship Outreach at Google. “We’re truly excited to be teaming up with NewME to bring this series to New York and can’t wait to see the big ideas that come from the teams here.”
The event will be hosted by Huge Inc. in Brooklyn in the home of Huge Labs.
PopUp participants will pitch to win a potential slot a future session of NewME Accelerator in San Francisco and a prize pack valued at approximately $45,000 from partners like Google, Rackspace, Microsoft, ZenDesk and more.

Color is an essential part of how we experience the world, both biologically and culturally. One of the earliest formal explorations of color theory came from an unlikely source — the German poet, artist, and politician Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who in 1810 publishedTheory of Colours (public library; public domain), his treatise on the nature, function, and psychology of colors. Though the work was dismissed by a large portion of the scientific community, it remained of intense interest to a cohort of prominent philosophers and physicists, including Arthur Schopenhauer,Kurt Gödel, and Ludwig Wittgenstein.
Listen ladies, when guys are upset to be in the friendzone, most of the time it’s because they wanted to pursue a romantic relationship with you, NOT just because they wanted to stick their p in your v. They are entitled to be fucking disappointed in the same way you would be disappointed if someone you had a crush on wasn’t interested in you. Which, given some of your fucking attitudes, probably happens all the time.
Earlier tonight, Miss New York, Nina Davuluri, an Indian-American woman, was crowned the winner of the 2014 Miss America Pageant. Idiot racists got so mad, they started mixing up Indian, Indian-American, Arab, Muslim, and everything in between. It’s (literarily) a most impressive display of dumb mixed with intolerance and even more stupidity. USA! USA! USA!

We need more people like Steve from @WholeFoodsNYC in the world
Thank you Steve @wholefoodsnyc 23rd Street/Chelesa location for standing up for me.
A mother with her son jumped in front of me started a fight, made a reference to me being black, thinking was special because of Affirmative Action / having a job, and tried to argue with me at the store. Steve came over to diffuse the situation - I stopped and started walking away she kept yelling. Steve approach and asked her to leave once again and then said to him “youre choosing that nigger over a mother?” Patrons in the store dropped their jaws. It took everything in me to hold back the tears as I stood there chose to smile at her as Steve and security carried her out while she held her son.
He ended up paying for my dinner and gave me the biggest hug stating the same thought I had which was “I feel sorry for her son.” Thank you Steve for standing up, escorting, and banning that ignorant woman from that location. And if you’re wondering - I cried as soon as I left the building. What a day.
I don’t know if Steve will ever get the recognition he deserves but this was a very meaningful situation. We need more people like Steve in the world.
